Abraham The Patriarch Practiced Divine Healing

This verse may shake the theology of some of the readers of this page.

Genesis 20:17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.

Wow, another healing, in the Old Testament. Of a "pagan" king.

John 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

Are we doing the works of Abraham, the faithful one, or are we following those that are faithless and do not believe that God is a healing God? We have heard it preached against so often that we scarcely believe that is is possible that God wants to heal us.

Rom 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Healing and deliverance is the bread of the children.

Mark 7:26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter. 27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

If the Old Covenant had a promuse of God's healing power, then how much more should the New Covenant?

Exo 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

Moses prayed for healing for Miriam.

Num 12:13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.

God healed Hezekiah.

2 Ki 20:5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.

David knew that God was a God of healing.

Psa 42:11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Psa 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Jesus was prophesied in the Old Testament as a healer.

Psa 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

The shepherds in the Old Testatment were condemned for not healing the people.

Ezek 34:4 The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.

Jesus performed the works of God.

Mat 4:23-24 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

In many places, Jesus healed everyone that was sick.

Mat 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:

Mat 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Mat 12:15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

Mat 14:14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

Mat 15:30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:

Mat 19:2 And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.

Mat 21:14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

The healings that Jesus performed were as prophesied by Isaiah.

Mat 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Jesus gave his disciples the power to heal the sick.

Mat 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
