ST. PAUL’S SECOND LETTER TO THE CORINTHIANS 11:1-6
Brethren, I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me! I feel a divine jealousy for you, for I betrothed you to Christ to present you as a pure bride to her one husband. But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if some one comes and preaches another Jesus than the one we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you submit to it readily enough. I think that I am not in the least inferior to these superlative apostles. Even if I am unskilled in speaking, I am not in knowledge; in every way we have made this plain to you in all things.

Paul was invested in Corinth

The Apostle Paul visited Corinth at least three times. On his first visit he spent approximately 18 months in Corinth.

Act 18:11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them

Paul had a “painful visit” where Paul speaks of having come to Corinth again in sorrow.

2 Cor 2:1 But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.

Paul planned a third visit to Corinth.

2 Cor 12:14 Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

Another Gospel

Paul warns the Church in Corinth that there are true and false teachers. These false teachers bring a different Gospel than Paul taught. This has played out over time. Just as there were those who twisted the Gospel then there are people now who twist the words of Paul and the Gospel.

Paul’s authority was equal to the Apostles that walked with Jesus. His mission was to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles.

Romans 15:16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

Peter also had this ministry.

Acts 15:7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
