I went to a Messianic Jewish synagogue for 1.5 yrs back in the mid 1990’s.
I mistakenly thought if I went to a Messianic synagogue, I’d get to learn the Jewish roots of the Christian faith. What I got was the form of rabbinic Judaism that was practiced after the temple was destroyed.
I learned that they are Dispensationalists dressed up as Jews.
I got to know one of them well. His name was “Levi”. He wore the hat, black coat, and even the tassels. Turned out his real name was Steve and he had ZERO Jewish ancestry. He was cosplaying.
It’s a longer story for why I left but it was their Dispensationalism that ultimately was the cause. They were a Calvary Chapel for Jews and Jewish wannabes.
Paul very specifically spoke out about those who would be Judaizers and separate themselves from the Church. He used colorful language that is translated for sensitive ears.
Gal 5:11-12 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased. I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
This refers to cutting off the male part of the body.
Even their “rabbi” was a fake. From the LA Times:
The Orthodox Church
Jewish rabbis bring their students to the Orthodox Church to show them what second temple era worship was like. There is nothing closer. It’s because the Orthodox Church is simply the people carrying on the traditions of worship from the time of Christ.
I was looking for the right thing, but in the wrong places.
