{"id":135,"date":"2013-05-19T16:33:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-19T16:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/douglasgilliland.com\/theology\/2013\/05\/19\/biblical-teaching-on-forgiveness\/"},"modified":"2025-01-13T14:09:06","modified_gmt":"2025-01-13T14:09:06","slug":"biblical-teaching-on-forgiveness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/douglasgilliland.com\/theology\/2013\/05\/19\/biblical-teaching-on-forgiveness\/","title":{"rendered":"Biblical teaching on forgiveness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Someone asked me to summarize my theology of forgiveness. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We need to forgive people who are truly ignorant of their sins.<\/li>\n<li>If someone repents we are obligated to forgive them.<\/li>\n<li>Repentance includes sorrow, restoration, recompense.<\/li>\n<li>If someone does not repent, we are obliged to confront and rebuke them.<\/li>\n<li>If someone refuses to repent after confrontation, there is a process that needs to be followed through until the end.<\/li>\n<li>If someone does not repent at the end of the process, they are handed over to God. for vengeance, we are forbidden to take vengeance ourselves on the unrepentant.<\/li>\n<li>God stands with the victim, not the perpetrator of the offense.<\/li>\n<li>God\u2019s goal is reconciliation of persons but this reconciliation can not happen without repentance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Someone asked me to summarize my theology of forgiveness.
