T. Wright&#8217;s paper New Perspectives in Paul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Stating the five points in the positive.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When Paul refers to \u2018the gospel\u2019, he is to the proclamation that the crucified Jesus of Nazareth has been raised from the dead and thereby demonstrated to be both Israel\u2019s Messiah and the world\u2019s true Lord.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paul always uses the phrase \u2018the righteousness of God\u2019, (dikaiosune theou), to denote the righteousness of God himself.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paul affirms that God\u2019s final judgment will be in accordance with the entirety of a life led &#8211; in accordance, in other words, with works.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For Paul, \u2018justification\u2019 is something that follows on from the \u2018call\u2019 through which a sinner is summoned to turn from idols and serve the living God, to turn from sin and follow Christ, to turn from death and believe in the God who raised Jesus from the dead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paul uses \u2018vindication\u2019 language, i.e. the dikaioo word-group, when he is describing the verdict which God pronounces consequent upon that event.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>  <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Restating each of the five in the negative.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When Paul refers to \u2018the gospel\u2019, he is not referring to a system of salvation, though of course the gospel implies and contains this, nor even to the good news that there now is a way of salvation open to all.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paul is not using the phrase \u2018the righteousness of God\u2019, (dikaiosune theou) to denote the status which God\u2019s people have from him or in his presence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The righteousness of the law has been mistreated as a hypothetical position which Paul then undermines by showing that nobody can actually achieve it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To \u2018justify\u2019 does not mean to \u2018become a Christian\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Justification is not conversion itself nor is it the establishment of a \u2018relationship\u2019 between a person and God.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These are directly from N.
