{"id":68,"date":"2024-11-22T20:47:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-22T20:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/douglasgilliland.com\/theology\/2024\/11\/22\/lists-of-apostles\/"},"modified":"2024-11-22T20:47:00","modified_gmt":"2024-11-22T20:47:00","slug":"lists-of-apostles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/douglasgilliland.com\/theology\/2024\/11\/22\/lists-of-apostles\/","title":{"rendered":"Lists of Apostles"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Similarities&nbsp;and Differences&nbsp;in the lists of the names of the Apostles<\/h2>\n<p>Matthew and Mark have the same names, in a different order to each other, and with some different details.<\/p>\n<p>The Synoptic Gospels match for the most part, but Luke has a different name for one of the apostles compared to Matthew and Mark.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Matthew and Mark have <b>Thaddaeus<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Luke has&nbsp;<b>Judas&nbsp;<\/b>the brother of James<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Luke and Acts have the same list of names but considering they are both authored by Luke this should not be a surprise.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Gospel Source Materials (KJV)<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Mat 10:2-3 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called <b>Peter<\/b>, and <b>Andrew <\/b>his brother; <b>James <\/b>the son of Zebedee, and <b>John <\/b>his brother; <b>Philip<\/b>, and <b>Bartholomew<\/b>; <b>Thomas<\/b>, and <b>Matthew<\/b> the publican; <b>James<\/b> the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was&nbsp;<b>Thaddaeus<\/b>; <b>Simon <\/b>the Canaanite, and <b>Judas Iscariot<\/b>, who also betrayed him.<\/p>\n<p>Mar 3:16-19 And Simon he surnamed <b>Peter<\/b>; And <b>James <\/b>the son of Zebedee, and <b>John <\/b>the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder: And <b>Andrew<\/b>, and <b>Philip<\/b>, and <b>Bartholomew<\/b>, and <b>Matthew<\/b>, and <b>Thomas<\/b>, and <b>James <\/b>the son of Alphaeus, and <b>Thaddaeus<\/b>, and <b>Simon <\/b>the Canaanite, And <b>Judas Iscariot<\/b>, which also betrayed him&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Luk 6:14-16 Simon, (whom he also named <b>Peter<\/b>,) and <b>Andrew <\/b>his brother, <b>James <\/b>and <b>John<\/b>, <b>Philip<\/b> and <b>Bartholomew<\/b>, <b>Matthew <\/b>and Thomas, <b>James <\/b>the son of Alphaeus, and <b>Simon <\/b>called Zelotes, And <b>Judas <\/b>the brother of James, and <b>Judas Iscariot<\/b>, which also was the traitor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Act 1:13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both <b>Peter<\/b>, and <b>James<\/b>, and <b>John<\/b>, and <b>Andrew<\/b>, <b>Philip<\/b>, and <b>Thomas<\/b>, <b>Bartholomew<\/b>, and <b>Matthew<\/b>, <b>James <\/b>the son of Alphaeus, and <b>Simon <\/b>Zelotes, and <b>Judas <\/b>the brother of James.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Similarities&nbsp;and Differences&nbsp;in the lists of the names of the Apostles Matthew and Mark have the same names, in a different order to each other, and with some different details.
